Eclipse 2026 → Eclipse 2027
You watched the 2026 eclipse. The next one lasts almost three times longer.
On 12 August 2026 the Moon's shadow crossed Iceland and northern Spain for a little over two minutes, with the Sun hanging low over the horizon. Eleven and a half months later, on 2 August 2027, it returns over Luxor, Egypt - almost overhead, in cloudless desert skies, for 6 minutes 23 seconds.

Why 2027 is the one worth travelling for
The 2026 eclipse was a short, dramatic, horizon-hugging event - beautiful, but over almost before your eyes adjusted. The 2027 eclipse is a different category of experience. Three rare conditions coincide: the Moon is near perigee, the Earth is near aphelion, and the shadow falls close to the equator, where Earth's rotation runs with the shadow rather than against it. The result is the longest totality visible from land between 1991 and 2114.
Six minutes is long enough to look away from the corona and back again, to watch its streamers change shape, to see shadow bands ripple across the desert, to notice Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter appear, and to feel the temperature fall five to ten degrees while it happens.
Luxor, not just Egypt
Luxor sits within seconds of the centreline, with open desert horizons on the West Bank, near-zero August cloud cover, and Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple within reach of every viewing site.
