• Apply using the passport you intend to carry to Egypt.
• Ensure the visa category covers the full itinerary and intended number of entries.
• Save the approval electronically and carry a printed copy.
• Keep accommodation and return or onward travel details accessible.

A single-entry tourist visa may suit a straightforward holiday wholly within Egypt. A multiple-entry visa may be needed if your plans involve leaving Egypt and returning during the same journey. Do not assume that a connection through another country counts as remaining in Egypt; examine the routing and whether you pass immigration elsewhere.

Visa on arrival

Citizens of certain countries may obtain a tourist visa on arrival at Egyptian airports. This commonly involves purchasing a visa sticker from an authorised bank counter before proceeding through passport control. Eligibility, accepted payment arrangements and fees should be checked close to travel, as requirements can change.

Visa on arrival can be convenient, but it offers less certainty before departure. Queues may form when several international flights land together, and any uncertainty over passport eligibility must be resolved at the airport. Travellers with tight domestic connections, complex citizenship circumstances or limited tolerance for arrival delays may prefer an e-visa where eligible.

Do not rely on another traveller’s experience unless they hold the same passport and travelled under current rules. Residence in the UK, European Union, United States or another country does not necessarily give the holder the same visa rights as a citizen of that country.

Passport validity and document checks

Egypt generally requires a passport to remain valid for at least six months from the date of arrival. Because official and airline requirements can be revised, verify this rule before travel and renew early if your passport is close to the threshold.

Your passport should also be in good physical condition and have sufficient blank space for immigration endorsements. If you renew it after obtaining an e-visa, the visa may not match your new passport details; seek official guidance rather than travelling with an unresolved discrepancy.
